Salmonella Pet Food Recall Expanded
Many More Brands of Dog Treats, Dog Foods are Recalled in Feb. 2009

The peanut butter salmonella scare doesn't just pose a threat to humans. Pets are also at risk of developing salmonella.
A number of pet foods were added to the list of recalled pet foods in February 2009, as a result of salmonella-tainted peanut butter that originated from the Peanut Corporation of America's manufacturing plant in Georgia where some of the peanut butter was found to be contaminated with salmonella.
Which Pet Food Brands Are Recalled?
At the start of February, just a few recalled dog treats were on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) list of foods that may be contaminated with salmonella. Those recalled pet food products included:
- Carolina Prime Dog Treats
- Healthy Hide Dog Treats
- Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits
- Puppy Chow Dog Treats
- Healthy Choice Multi Flavored Dog Biscuits
Unfortunately, the list of recalled pet products has grown by leaps and bounds, thereby increasing cats' and dogs' risk of developing salmonella.
What New Pet Products Have Been Added to the Salmonella Recall List?
By the latter part of February, 2009, the list of recalled pet foods had grown to include many more dog treats and pet foods manufactured by American Nutrition, Inc. (first grouping of products) and The Scotts Company, LLC (second grouping.)
The following pet products are now recalled due to possible salmonella contamination:
- American Nutrition Small Assorted Dog Biscuits (25 pound box) - Lot codes 001A7xxx to 018A9xxx
- Yeaster Small Assorted Treats (30 pound box) - Lot codes 001A7xxx to 018A9xxx
- Mill Creek Premium Large Assorted Dog Biscuits (20 pound box) - UPC 0 78601 95106 9 and lot codes 001A7xxx to 018A9xxx
- Farm Style Small Assorted Dog Biscuits (5 pound bag) - UPC 0 78601 90205 4 and all "Best Before" dates prior to "01/18/10"
- Hill Country Fare Small 5-Flavor Dog Biscuits (4 pound bag) - UPC 0 41220 52080 0 and all "Best Before" dates prior to "JAN 18 10"
- Integrity Assorted Dog Biscuits (4 pound bag) - UPC 0 64237 14639 8 and all "Best Before" dates prior to "01/18/10"
- Next Gen Pet Products Small Assorted Biscuits (30 pound box) - UPC 0 15400 03886 7 and all "Best Before" dates prior to "JAN 18 10"
